Albuquerque Sunport lifts shelter-in-place order following ‘potential security threat’
Sunport officials did not elaborate on what the security issue was, directing questions to the Albuquerque Police Department
The Albuquerque International Sunport lifted a shelter-in-place order issued Monday morning following what officials said was a “potential security threat” in the parking structure.
“Out of an abundance of caution, a shelter in place was issued for the facility, while an investigation was conducted by the Albuquerque Police Department,” said Diana Lopez, a spokesperson for Sunport.
Ticket counters and baggage claim were shut down and the parking structure was closed while police investigated. Roughly 30 minutes later, the shelter-in-place order was lifted and airport operations resumed.
The Sunport posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, around 9:30 a.m. that it was “investigating a security issue.”
Sunport officials did not elaborate on what the security issue was and directed any further questions to the Albuquerque Police Department.
