'All clear' at Cannon Air Force Base after active shooter report

Published Modified

Cannon Air Force Base lifted a lockdown enacted after reports of an active shooter, according to a social media post from the base.

The base and Chavez Housing had been on lockdown early Friday afternoon, the base posted on Facebook.

"Base leadership takes these reports seriously, and as such, security forces immediately initiated active shooter protocol," according to a news release from Maj. Jackie Pienkowski.

The base conducted sweeps across the base and posted an "all clear" message at 1:03 p.m. There were no reported injuries and there are no suspects, Pienkowski said.

Officials provided no additional information about the reports that caused the lockdown.

"The safety of our Air Commandos and families is our highest priority — and we take reports of an active shooter seriously," said U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Johnston, 27th Special Operations Wing commander. "Thank you to our security forces team and the wing for taking this seriously."
