New Year's Day fire displaces three, kills dog in NE Albuquerque
A dog was killed after a fire destroyed a Northeast Albuquerque home on Wednesday morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to an Albuquerque Fire Rescue alert.
At about 2 a.m., AFR responded to a call of a possible structure in the 9400 block of Luthy Circle, near Easterday and Lomas.
When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family home in flames. They were able to put the fire under control within 20 minutes.
No people were reported injured, but a dog was killed, and the home is uninhabitable, AFR said.
The age, breed and name of the dog has not been released.
AFR is working with the Red Cross to help the residents.
"AFR would like to remind the public to be careful with space heater placement and surrounding flammable materials during these colder months," the alert states.
