Motorcyclist killed in crash with ambulance on East Central

Albuquerque police say a motorcyclist crashed into an ambulance as it crossed an intersection Saturday afternoon on East Central, killing the rider.
Rebecca Atkins, an Albuquerque police spokeswoman, said the motorcyclist died after being taken to a hospital.
The ambulance, operated by Albuquerque Ambulance Service, was running lights and sirens at the time, she said.
Media representatives for the ambulance service could not be reached Saturday for more details.
Officers responded at 2:30 p.m. to the crash at Juan Tabo and Central and the motorcyclist was found fatally injured, Atkins said. Preliminary investigation showed the ambulance was headed south on Juan Tabo and slowed to be sure the intersection “was clear.”
As the ambulance driver crossed Central, the eastbound motorcyclist crashed into the passenger side, Atkins said.
“A field officer obtained a brief statement from the ambulance driver, who stated he did not see the motorcycle as he entered the intersection,” Atkins said.
