Gun found in Valley High School student's backpack
Albuquerque Public Schools staff found a loaded gun in a Valley High student's backpack on Thursday, KOAT-TV reported.
Parents were notified by letter that staff confiscated a gun found while searching a student for an unrelated reason. Albuquerque Police officers were involved with confiscating the firearm.
The student did not express any intention to hurt himself or others, KOAT reported.
"I want to be unequivocally clear: the possession of any weapon, particularly a gun, within the confines of our school premises is an egregious and intolerable violation of our rules and regulations," the letter by Principal Anthony Griego read.
The student may face expulsion and prosecution, according to the letter.
