APS board to discuss again who will be the district's next superintendent
Second time’s the charm?
The Albuquerque Public Schools board plans to meet behind closed doors again Monday morning to take up who will become the district’s next leader after spending 10½ hours in executive session on Wednesday only to put off the decision.
The panel tabled the decision to “allow the board time for due diligence.” The district declined to further explain what that meant.
Up for consideration are former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Ahart, who spent 10 years in that job, and current APS Chief Operations Officer Gabriella Blakey, who’s spent roughly 20 years with the district on and off.
As was the case on Wednesday, there’s no guarantee the board will deliver a verdict on Monday. The panel’s agenda for the meeting includes a review and discussion of finalist applications and “discussing a possible contract for the next superintendent.”
The board has the same item on the agenda for its Feb. 7 meeting.
