1 person displaced, service dog missing after water main break in Northeast Albuquerque

Published Modified

There were no reported injuries, but a service dog went missing after a water main break blasted through a road in Northeast Albuquerque, resulting in an apartment complex and a retirement community losing their water.

At about 12:35 p.m. Sunday, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a call of the water main break in the 10300 block of Gutierrez, near Montgomery and Morris. Traffic closed in both directions on Gutierrez.

According to an AFR Facebook post, the roof over the garage of a townhouse was unable to shed the water fast enough, resulting in its collapse. A person has been displaced and a service dog is missing.

AFR said no one was hurt and PNM began working to isolate power. PNM spokesman Eric Chavez said one customer was affected.

Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority began working on the water main break. Utility Authority spokesman David Morris said a contractor is expected to help with the water line on Monday.

Morris said a nearby apartment and retirement community are without water.
