Bernalillo County firefighter dies in accident
Richard Hollingshead III was 'willing to help others,' BernCo Fire Rescue spokesperson William Harris says

Bernalillo County firefighter Richard Hollingshead III was killed in an off-duty vehicle accident on Friday, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue spokesperson William Harris said in an email Sunday evening.
The incident is under investigation, he said in a phone interview.
Hollingshead III, 21, who had been a firefighter since 2024, was a "vibrant kid" who enjoyed riding motorcycles and staying in shape, Harris said.
"He was so willing to help others in the academy and that transferred into his career," he said.
In a statement, Bernalillo County Fire Chief Zach Lardy said the department's "thoughts and prayers are with firefighter Hollingshead's family, friends, and fellow first responders during this incredibly difficult time."
"This tragic loss has deeply impacted our department and the fire service community," Lardy said. "BCFR is providing support resources to our members as they grieve the loss of firefighter Hollingshead."
Memorial services are being planned, Harris said.
