Is your baby basic? Most popular baby names in New Mexico for 2025
New Mexico Department of Health releases annual statistics
Flying high on pink and blue banners and embroidered on swaddles and bibs, Olivia and Noah were the most popular names for babies born in New Mexico this year.
The New Mexico Department of Health released its annual baby names data this week. The list compiles the top 10 most popular names for babies of each gender and draws from data from the Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics.
For girls, Olivia, Mia and Sophia took the top three, while boys were most commonly named Noah, Liam or Mateo.
Though the lists are largely stable year to year, 2025 marked a downward trend for at least one name: Emma, which fell off the top 10 list for girls for the first time in more than 10 years.
Emma was replaced by Aria, which has appeared in the top 10 in the past, according to the DOH.
Meanwhile, names for baby boys kept it consistent. This year’s list is the same as last, with biblical names such as Noah, Levi, Elias, Ezekiel, Ezra and Mateo leading.
One name was especially popular with two different spellings, Sophia and Sofia, taking the third and fourth slots on the girl’s list.
This list is subject to change, as babies born after Dec. 10 have not yet been tallied.
