Man accused of gunning down man outside NE ABQ club
A man was arrested after allegedly shooting a man to death during an argument outside the Navajo Elks Lodge building Sunday morning.
Keith Thompson, 56, of Albuquerque, is charged with an open count of murder and shooting at or from a motor vehicle. He will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center, Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said in a news release on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased man’s name is not being released until his family members have been notified, he said.
Thompson’s criminal complaint has been sealed.
The man’s girlfriend told police Thompson and the man got into an argument at the Navajo Elks Lodge on the 500 block of San Pedro NE, near Lomas, early Sunday after Thompson accused the man of disrespecting him, Gallegos said.
She told police a bystander helped de-escalate the situation and Thompson had appeared to drive away, according to police.
Shortly after, however, she told police Thompson came back to the front of the lodge where the man was standing and the two men resumed arguing, Gallegos said. As they argued, she said she heard two gunshots before Thompson drove away, he said.
The man, who was shot in the chest and shoulder, died at the scene, Gallegos said.
Police used automated license plate readers to locate Thompson’s vehicle on Valencia Drive SE, about 1.5 miles away from the shooting, where Thompson was arrested Sunday afternoon, Gallegos said.
Two people fatally shot, another injured in Farmington
Three people were shot — two fatally — after a shooting in Farmington Sunday morning.
At around 1:54 a.m., the Farmington Police Department responded to a call of a shooting near the intersection of East Murray Drive (U.S. 64) and Camina Entrada.
When officers arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds, Farmington police spokesperson Shanice Gonzales said in a news release Sunday. All three were taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where two people died, she said.
It is unclear what the third person’s condition is and if there are any suspects.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the individuals involved were known to one another, and this incident does not appear to be a random act of violence,” Gonzales said.
Detectives are investigating the case and more information will be released as it becomes available, she said.
Gonzales said anyone with information is urged to contact the Detective Division Tipline at 505-599-1068.
