Man accused of killing girlfriend during drunken fight in North Valley
A man is behind bars after being accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in front of their child early Tuesday morning in the North Valley.
Mykyle Lewis-Robinson, 22, is charged with an open count of murder in the death of 19-year-old Talia Wills.
Lewis-Robinson has been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
Police responded sometime before 2 a.m. to a shooting at an apartment near 12th and Griegos NW, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. Arriving officers were approached by Lewis-Robinson, who told them Wills had been shot.
Police said Wills was found dead in the couple’s living room, and their baby was in a playpen nearby, unharmed. Lewis-Robinson told police Wills’ family had come over earlier in the night and they smoked cannabis and drank whiskey.
Lewis-Robinson said after the relatives left, he and Wills got into an argument that escalated, according to the complaint.
He told police he went into the bedroom and grabbed a bag that had his gun inside.
Police said Lewis-Robinson told them by that time “he had enough and he was mad.” He said he pulled out the gun and pointed it at Wills to “scare her.”
Lewis-Robinson told police he “wasn’t sure” how the gun was loaded, but he shot Wills, according to the complaint. He said he had bought the gun “illegally for $200” a month ago.
Police said Lewis-Robinson told them he was “intoxicated and upset” when he pointed the gun at Wills.
