Man charged in 2023 shooting death
Police say woman was shot by a drug dealer during a robbery gone wrong
A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly shooting and killing a woman in the International District in 2023.
Alexander Stock, 33, is charged with an open count of murder in the death of Hannah Wilson. He was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Tuesday. He does not yet have an attorney.
"This behavior is extremely violent, unjustified and defendant showed no regard for the life and safety of others, killing Wilson," states a pretrial detention motion. "Defendant has been dishonest with law enforcement, and believes he can avoid responsibility for his crimes."
Albuquerque police were dispatched around 5 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2023 after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle near Alcazar and Copper, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
Police approached the vehicle and found a woman, later identified as Wilson, had been shot "one time at close range in the upper right chest," the complaint states.
Officers obtained surveillance footage that showed Wilson's vehicle parked in front of a house around 1:30 a.m. The footage showed a man in the backseat, later identified as Stock, reach over the front seat and get into a "violent struggle with the driver," according to the complaint.
Shortly after, footage showed Stock rummaging through the vehicle before he got out of the car with what police believe was a gun in his hand and fleeing the scene, the complaint states.
Another man, who was not identified, could be seen in the front passenger seat.
"...It appears (Wilson) was murdered and robbed by the two passengers in her vehicle," according to the complaint.
Officers spoke with the woman's mother, who said she had checked Wilson's phone history and found roughly 30 messages between Wilson and another number in the minutes leading up to her death, the complaint states. The mother told police Wilson sold drugs and carried a gun in her vehicle.
Police obtained a search warrant for the other phone number and found that it belonged to Stock, according to the complaint.
On July 18, 2024, officers called Stock, who told them that Wilson had asked to meet up with him but he was "not available and never got the chance to speak with her," the complaint states. Stock told police he did not know what happened to her or who she was with the night of her death.
Police said when detectives asked why Wilson had texted him so many times, Stock told them it was "probably because (Wilson) was on drugs."
For nearly a year, officers had no leads on the case until a woman went to a police station and told them she was with Stock when he spoke with officers over the phone, according to the complaint. The woman said that, after ending the phone call, Stock told her he was in the car with Wilson and a drug dealer because the pair planned to rob the dealer.
The woman told police Stock said the drug dealer shot and killed Wilson after the alleged robbery went south, but he was not shot and walked home after the shooting, the complaint states.
"He just left her there in the car and didn't say anything to anybody," the woman told police, according to the complaint. The woman told police that she did not believe Stock's story, was concerned for her safety and decided to notify authorities.
