Man dies after getting hit by pickup in NE ABQ; charges are pending, police say

A man has died after he and a woman were hit by a pickup truck in Northeast Albuquerque Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Rebecca Atkins said in a news release Monday.

At about 1:15 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call of a crash at the intersection of Chelwood Park and Menual.

A driver in a 1990 Dodge pickup was heading north on Chelwood when it made a left-turn on Menaul and hit a man and a woman crossing the street, Atkins said. The man, who was in critical condition Sunday, died from his injuries on Monday while the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, she said.

"The primary contributing factor appears to be the driver's failure to yield to a right of way," Atkins said.
