Man shot and killed in reported Tres Piedras home invasion
State Police: No charges filed, name of homeowner not being released
TRES PIEDRAS — New Mexico State Police is investigating a fatal shooting that took place during a reported home invasion in Tres Piedras, west of Taos, last Friday.
State Police Public Information Officer Amanda Richards confirmed that 46-year-old Steven Gutierrez was killed in the shooting.
At least one witness reported that Gutierrez was shot after breaking into a home in the small unincorporated Taos County community on Jan. 30.
Officers responded to the residence after receiving a call that the homeowner shot Gutierrez after the man entered the residence, Richards said.
It is unclear whether the homeowner and Gutierrez knew each other.
No charges have resulted from the fatal shooting so far, and the incident remains under investigation, according to State Police.
"Because no charges have been filed, the name of the homeowner will not be released," Richards said.
