Glitch Pays Some City Workers Twice
Journal Staff Report
City Hall ran into some glitches paying thousands of employees this week as it launched a new computer system.
About 2,000 employees who have their checks deposited directly into bank accounts didn't have their pay posted at midnight Thursday, as they usually do. And when those employees did get paid later in the day, about half of them ended up receiving two deposits instead of one.
Tanda Meadors, Albuquerque's finance director, said everyone was paid on Thursday, most by 3 p.m. Payday is actually Friday, but the city typically makes deposits on Thursday, she said.
The city notified employees of the issue and will work with any who faced problems because of the glitch, she said.
"We will make sure our employees are whole," Meadors said.
The city is already correcting the double deposits — work that will continue through Monday.
The city this week began rolling out a new $5.5 million "Enterprise Resource Planning" system, which is intended to streamline the budget, finance, human resources and payroll computers.
"With any conversion, you're going to have minor hiccups," Meadors said.
