APS Candidates To Speak
Journal Staff Report
Five candidates seeking to fill Gordon Rowe's spot on the Albuquerque school board will be at a public forum at 6:30 p.m. today at La Cueva High's performing arts center.
The board is to appoint Rowe's replacement during a special meeting at 7 a.m. Friday. The position, which represents board district 7 in the Far Northeast Heights, expires March 1. The regular four-year term is on the ballot for the board's election in February.
Candidates are Jon Barela, president of a property development organization, the 1789 Group; Arturo Candelaria, a human resources manager for Ktech computer services; Kathy Frazier, parent volunteer and former teacher; Mike Gibson, executive director of the Associated General Contractors of New Mexico; and David Peercy, a software engineer at Sandia National Laboratories.
"The public will have a chance to hear why the candidates want to serve on the board. Those attending also will have an opportunity to ask questions," APS board president Mary Lee Martin said. "It is important for board members to get input before we select a replacement for Gordon Rowe."
