Jason Daskalos appears to be a man in a hurry.
An APD motorcycle officer cited the Albuquerque developer and race car driver this week for going 83 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Daskalos was driving a rental Chevrolet Impala when he was stopped Tuesday afternoon on the Interstate 25 southbound frontage road, about a quarter-mile north of Mountain.
"He was cooperative, and, when he was presented the citation, he opted to have a court hearing instead of paying the fine," Albuquerque police spokesman John Walsh said Friday.
A message left with Daskalos' attorney wasn't returned.
In the past 18 years, Daskalos, who is also an amateur race car driver, has received 37 other traffic citations in Albuquerque. At least 20 of them have been dismissed.
Daskalos' traffic history came to light in August 2006 after an Albuquerque police officer helped him sneak out of the police department's BAT Mobile. Daskalos, 36, had been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and was waiting to be transported to the West Side jail.
A six-member Metro Court jury found him not guilty of the DWI charge last June.
Ben Kirby, the officer, was fired. Last month, a District Court jury indicted him on charges that included assisting escape and tampering with public records.
At the same time, Daskalos was charged in a criminal information case with three counts of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer all misdemeanors.
