Navajo Nation police shot and killed a man Wednesday in To'hajiilee after responding to a domestic violence incident.

Officers responded around 10:30 a.m. to a home roughly 20 miles west of Albuquerque after reports that a woman had been kidnapped, according to a news release posted on the Navajo Police Department's Facebook page.

"Upon arrival, officer(s) located the victim, but a male exited the home armed with a weapon which resulted in the shooting of the male suspect," the release states.

Navajo police did not immediately release the identity of the man who was shot or say how many officers opened fire. No officers were injured, according to the release.

Shortly after, police issued a shelter-in-place to all schools and government buildings in To'hajiilee, the release states. The warning was lifted sometime later.

The Navajo Police Department, the FBI and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation are investigating the shooting. Police said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
