The popular New York Times game Wordle has players guess a mystery five-letter word, giving hints based on the letters in the word guessed previously. As for the word New Mexicans found most difficult? It was “decal.”
The puzzle with the answer “decal” was also the most difficult puzzle of the year in 13 other states, including Texas, Arizona and Connecticut, earning it the spot as America’s hardest Wordle puzzle of the year.
Research conducted by Unscramblerer.com analyzed data from 2024 for searches of the phrase “Wordle hint.” New Mexico had a monthly average of 15,694 searches.
Searches for “Wordle hint” spiked on the day the word “decal” was the answer. The next most difficult words were “jolly,” “bevel” and “buddy.” “Jolly” was the most difficult in 13 states. “Bevel” was most difficult of the year in six states, and “buddy” was most difficult in five states.
