Presbyterian to give newborns Route 66 onesies to commemorate centennial
Hospital expects nearly 3,000 babies to be born in 2026, Presbyterian spokesperson says
Babies born at Presbyterian Hospital this year will get to be a part of the Route 66 Centennial celebration.
All newborns will receive a commemorative onesie that reads: “Born on Route 66.”
“(They) offer families a tangible reminder of their baby’s special place in Albuquerque’s Route 66 story,” Presbyterian Healthcare Services spokesperson Kourtney Muñoz said in a news release.
The gift is part of the city's celebration of the Mother Road’s 100th birthday. It was born, if you will, on Nov. 11, 1926, with the creation of the U.S. highway numbered system.
“Route 66 is part of Albuquerque’s identity, and so are the families we serve every day,” said Dr. Rebecca Vasilion, Women’s Program medical director, in a statement. “This is a joyful way to honor the city’s history while celebrating new life and welcoming our youngest community members.”
The hospital anticipates nearly 3,000 babies will be born this year. As of Wednesday, 405 newborns have been delivered in 2026, Muñoz said.
"Route 66 (had) a special way of captivating people from the very beginning, and these keepsake onesies celebrate even our newest arrivals as part of Albuquerque's enduring legacy," city Department of Arts & Culture Director Shelle Sanchez said.
