In the past year the city of Albuquerque has installed 17 automated speed enforcement cameras and seen a significant decrease in the number of cars speeding in the areas, according to a news release.

The release reported an 88% drop in the number of speeders on Gibson Boulevard, and the average speed eastbound on Gibson near Carlisle has decreased by 7.2 mph.

The city aims to increase the number of cameras on major roadways to 20 by the end of the year, adding three cameras — two on the Westside and one in northeast Albuquerque.
