Eichenberg Didn't Disclose 1994 Gun Charge

Tim Eichenberg, Democratic candidate for state Senate District 15, falsely stated on Journal questionnaires in 2006 and May 2008 that he had never been charged with a crime.
Eichenberg was charged with a misdemeanor for illegally carrying a firearm in Austin in 1994, according to Travis County Clerk's Office officials. The charge was dropped a year later for insufficient evidence.
Eichenberg said Wednesday that he didn't know the incident qualified as being charged with a crime.
Eichenberg said he was held at the airport after accidentally placing an unloaded handgun in his carry-on luggage but was allowed to catch the next plane. He said he didn't remember being issued a citation or signing any legal documents.
He was carrying the gun legally as he drove through Texas but had to go to the airport to fly out because of an emergency. He forgot the gun was in his bag, he said.
Eichenberg said he is glad the issue came up, however, to remind him and other legislators that politics should be as transparent as possible.
"I should have disclosed the incident on the Journal questionnaire. It was my mistake to have not done so," Eichenberg said.
