Alamogordo Airport Has Solar Power
ALAMOGORDO The city of Alamogordo will save on electricity costs with the recent installation of solar energy cells at the Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport.
The 8-kilowatt array is connected to Public Service Company of New Mexico's system, feeding electricity into the power grid.
Airport manager Parker Bradley estimates the arrangement will save the city $400 to $500 a month.
He says the runway lights, airport beacon and air conditioning at the city facility normally cost the city $30,000 a year.
Bradley says the grid tie-in essentially slows the meter down.
The project was done under a $100,000 grant from the state Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department and was installed by Sacred Power of Albuquerque.
