New Mexico AG Warns of Restaurant Scam

Associated Press
FARMINGTON — New Mexico Attorney General Gary King's office has issued a warning to restaurants across the state of a new scam called "Health Inspector."
A spokeswoman for King says scammers pose as restaurant health inspectors from the State Health Department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They call restaurants statewide stating they have a complaint and will be visiting their establishment that day.
The Daily Times reports callers then instruct restaurant employees to hang up the phone and wait for a callback with identification numbers of the inspectors.
The second call is automated and provides a craigslist password while another call requests credit card machine numbers.
Officials think the "Health Inspector" scammers appear to be interested in obtaining credit card numbers and personal information.
