Suspect arrested in fatal drive-by in Southeast Albuquerque
Ray Louis Archuleta
Police arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed another man Monday afternoon in a neighborhood off East Central.
Ray Louis Archuleta, 43, is charged with an open count of murder, tampering with evidence and shooting from a motor vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court on Tuesday.
Albuquerque Police Department detectives arrested Archuleta at his apartment Monday afternoon, and Archuleta was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on Tuesday night, APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said in a news release.
The victim, 36-year-old Thomas Harrison, was found in the 200 block of Florida SE, south of Central, with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to the criminal complaint.
On Monday, officers responded to a dispatch call about a shooting at 12:16 p.m., after a caller reported hearing a gunshot and saw Harrison lying in the street. Harrison was pronounced dead from his injuries after being taken to a hospital, according to the criminal complaint.
Responding officers were able to speak to two witnesses on the scene. One of them reported a “white pickup, possibly a Toyota Tacoma,” in the area of the homicide and saw a man standing outside the vehicle talking to someone inside the truck. Shortly after, witnesses saw a flash from a firearm.
“After the muzzle flash is observed, the male immediately falls to the ground,” according to the criminal complaint. The truck was seen driving south in opposite lanes of traffic on Florida SE after the shooting.
APD found that the truck was registered to Archuleta, and detectives obtained surveillance video from a smoke shop that showed him driving the truck around the time of the killing, according to the complaint.
