TAOS  — Taos County sheriff's deputies arrested a Ranchos de Taos man Monday on suspicion of shooting at a car with four teenagers inside and said they discovered firearms, cash and drugs during the man's arrest.

Alejandro Reyes, 22, is set to appear in Taos Magistrate Court on Wednesday on charges of shooting at or from a motor vehicle, a second-degree felony; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a fourth-degree felony; and negligent use of a deadly weapon, a petty misdemeanor.

An arrest warrant affidavit states that a driver called police and said Reyes shot at their vehicle several times near the intersection of Cactus Flower Road and West Romero Road. The caller said three other teens were inside the car at the time, including an 18-year-old male and two 15-year-old females.

While investigating the scene, a deputy wrote that he observed a small hole in the side rear of the caller's vehicle consistent with a bullet's impact.

The caller who reported the alleged shooting said Reyes chased their vehicle through the south side of Taos and into the historic Ranchos de Taos community in a white Toyota Corolla they had seen earlier on Friday in Taos Plaza.

Deputies arrested Reyes Monday. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office may pursue "federal firearms and drug trafficking charges" through the U.S. Attorneys Office based on the narcotics, firearms and cash deputies said they discovered during Reyes' arrest.
