Waterline break shuts down West Side intersection

Reopening of Universe, Irving 'may take several days'

A water main break shut down a West Side intersection Thursday afternoon.

The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority said Universe and Irving NW are "completely closed" in all directions due to the break in the 12-inch waterline, which was reported around 2:30 p.m.

The break led to reports of low water pressure in the area, the utility said, though no outages related to the break have been confirmed.

"Repair efforts are expected to continue overnight and motorists are advised to avoid this area and seek alternate routes during today's and tomorrow's commutes," a water authority news release said. "Complete reopening of the intersection may take several days."
