See animals, be animals.

That largely summed up the New Mexico Outdoor Adventures Show at the state fairgrounds on Saturday, where attendees paid $5 to watch duck and turkey calling competitions, investigate a mock-poaching incident, learn to tie knots and meet state Game and Fish officers.

Inside the Manuel Lujan Building at Expo New Mexico, young’uns could be seen hopping on immobile ATVs and petting birds as old-timers drew lifelike sketches of buffalo.

The weekend-long event, put on by state Department of Game and Fish, continues at 10 a.m. today with fly-fishing lessons, an elk calling competition and a tutorial on “What Fish Eat” for anglers and enthusiasts.
