As parents, we make countless decisions for our children every day. Few, however, are as critical to their long-term success as the choice of where their educational journey begins. Early childhood research is clear: high-quality preschools give 3- and 4-year-olds a strong start and build the foundation for future learning.

That is why Albuquerque Public Schools is dedicated to simplifying this process for every family in our community. I invite you to join us for the APS Early Childhood School Choice Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center, 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE.

We understand that navigating the landscape of preschool options — whether you are considering APS programs, community providers or private schools — can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the decision-making process manageable and informed.

We have gathered our partners from across Albuquerque and Bernalillo County under one roof to create a "one-stop shop." This fair is specifically for families of children entering preschool, ages 3 and 4. It is your opportunity to compare diverse offerings, ask questions about curriculum styles, and learn about enrollment requirements for essential programs like New Mexico pre-K. We will also have information on specialized supports, including our special education and child find services.

Preschool is vital because it provides children with crucial exposure to social, emotional and academic development. In the classroom setting, children establish relationships with peers and develop fundamental social-emotional skills — learning to take turns, practicing patience and building confidence. These are the core requirements necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond. Studies consistently show that students who attend preschool have a higher graduation rate than those who do not.

Choosing the right preschool is one of the most important decisions a family can make. By bringing our community and private partners together, we are empowering you, the parents, to compare programs, ask questions and make a confident, informed choice that best fits your child's unique needs.

We look forward to seeing you at the fair and working together to ensure every child in Albuquerque has a strong foundation for their future.
