OPINION: Speak Up!

A committee of independent experts published the first-ever G20 GLOBAL INEQUALITY REPORT which shows that the richest 1% has captured 41% of all new wealth since 2000, while the bottom half of humanity received just 1%. It notes that 1 in 4 people globally now face food insecurity. WDS

No city should take people’s property, strip away bare essentials and worsen their hardships, making it harder to escape HOMELESSNESS. I want every city to adopt humane policies that respect dignity, protect belongings and support unhoused residents on their path to stability and housing. VM

Resident of Albuquerque since 1981. I’ve been watching crime, homelessness and drugs spiral to crisis proportions. Democratic pacifist solutions have failed. Broken store fronts, free bus rides, poor police response, I do not feel safe. Democrats do not discourage criminal, degenerate, violent behavior. Sickens me to see constant television commercials connecting DARREN WHITE with MAGA, and how he will cause chaos in Albuquerque. Now I’m receiving unsolicited political fliers in my personal mailbox with such negative pictures and comments. Sad our current mayor must stoop to this instead of positive fliers of accomplishments. Kudos to KOAT-TV for a well managed, nonpartisan debate between mayoral candidates. The incumbent MAYOR should consider donating his body to science; someone needs to measure his skull thickness. The messages regarding the effects of crime and homelessness in ABQ aren’t getting through. Time for a change. LM

64% of the Nov. 4 voters did not want MAYOR KELLER for a third term. Simple question — if you did not vote for him then, why would you now? The last eight years have been all downhill. We can change this now. BC

On DEC. 9, voters have an opportunity to change the direction of their city. Unfortunately, low voter turnout most always favors the incumbent. Despite flashy rhetoric, the city is not doing better now than eight years ago. Is change needed? Opportunity only comes through change. Let’s give it a try. GH

In the Washington Post’s map of states with largest degree of ELECTRICITY COST INCREASE, New Mexico is among the top 11. Why is that? Is it because our Public Regulation Commission is more generous than most? KC

To all those moaning about the ACA SUBSIDIES, that is not the problem. The problem is the ACA, which Obama and his Democrats shoved down our throats in 2010. It was a terrible bill to start with. Now the Democrats want to save it by throwing more money at it. SS

Instead of GERRYMANDERING and finding various ways to make it more difficult to vote, if Republicans want to maintain power, perhaps they should stop giving tax cuts to the wealthy and actually pass laws that improve the lives of the rest of us. JH

POTUS wants to give $20 billion to ARGENTINA. For what? So they can waste it? It’s likely a political ploy to help himself as most of his actions seem to be. Maybe the money could be used to help (all) his fellow Americans for a change. Just saying. MY

I need help! Why is the president pardoning former HONDURAN PRESIDENT Juan Orlando Hernandez, convicted in 2024 for drug trafficking and weapons charges? Yet, DJT is threatening a land war with Venezuela and bombing “narco-boats and terrorists” in the Caribbean? I am so confused. JJ

Trump pardons the former HONDURAN PRESIDENT convicted of weapons charges and trafficking cocaine while his ICE agents defy a federal court order; deporting a 19-year-old college student who has been living here since age 7 back to Honduras. “Worst of the worst” — Hello cocaine, goodbye student. ML

Trump has an interesting perspective on justice. If you are a Hispanic person, undocumented but here for many years peacefully working and paying taxes then you should be deported immediately. However, if you have cheated thousands or smuggled tons of drugs but have supported Trump, you are PARDONED. AF

Some of the media response after President Trump called that REPORTER, “PIGGY” was interesting. Obama and Biden would never have said that, they said. Well neither would George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson or any other president. EJG

I’ve worked at UNM for over 12 years and never received more than a cost of living pay increase because supposedly the budget wouldn’t allow it, yet the FOOTBALL COACH who has been here under 12 months and started higher than his predecessor just received a multimillion-dollar pay increase. AW
