OPINION: Speak Up!

Thank you Albuquerque voters for voting in one of the worst MAYORS we have had. He has done nothing for the people just for himself. We are high in crime and homelessness. Yeah, nothing is going to change. Have any of you gone Downtown? Apparently not. EM 

If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you’ve always got. How much worse can OUR CITY get? We are going to find out now. KP 

Congratulations Albuquerque residents, you voted for more of the same! Do not complain about CRIME, the homeless problem and businesses closing — you got what you voted for! DD 

Regarding "OPINION: Keller should adopt new strategy in third term" (Dec. 10 Journal): Seriously? Pete Dinelli rushing in to point out all of TIM KELLER's weaknesses while congratulating him for his third term and giving him already-obvious advice? Dinelli needs to stop should-ing on our newly reelected mayor! AH

Why? You people cry and moan about all the issues in this city and state. But, you keep ELECTING the same old rulers. Elect the same, no change. HH  

The LFC recently stated that New Mexico's GENERAL FUND has increased 80% since 2019. This enormous increase hasn't improved our quality of life. Education remains stuck at 50th, rural hospitals are closing and the crime rate remains one of the country's highest. Throwing money at issues doesn't always solve problems. WT 

Only just over one-third of registered voters cared enough about Albuquerque's sorry state of affairs to vote in the RUNOFF for mayor — sad, very sad! BM 

Regarding "OPINION: Solutions for New Mexico's doctor shortage" (Dec. 7 Journal): Former Rep. Gail Chasey’s doctor shortage opinion leads to why legislators need to have a salary and stop taking money from the TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION. She’s taken at least $40,000 from them (open secrets.org). AD 

Regarding "US Sens. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren criticize Blackstone over proposed TXNM ENERGY purchase" (Dec. 9 Journal): Why are East Coast U.S. Sens. Sanders, Warren and Blumenthal protecting NM consumers from hedge-fund Blackstone’s self-serving attempt to buy PNM (TXNM) while our Sens. Luján and Heinrich sit on their hands? RJB 

New Mexico wants the federal government to hand out free money for free food. The feds want to know if SNAP recipients qualify, like by not being dead. From states that have complied, USDA found 186,000 deceased collectors in 2025. NM refuses to cooperate with finding fraud and abuse. Huh? Why? DB

Trying to blame DEMOCRATS for everything going wrong accomplishes nothing but resentment. Republicans control all three branches of government which makes them responsible. POTUS ignores the plight of his own people, calling "affordability" a hoax. He's more interested in chasing shiny objects like a big-mouth bass. You don't matter. MY 

Our nation is threatened as never before. TRUMP’s attempts to seize power include: replacing department leaders with sycophants, removal of all inspectors general, leaning on the Justice Department and FBI, threatening mainstream media outlets, driving away our traditional allies and favoring wealthy oligarchs. WS 

SUPREME COURT shadow docket has ruled in favor of the Trump administration 20 out of 23 times overruling multiple different lower courts. Either lower courts have no idea what is in the United States Constitution or the Supreme Court is firmly in President Trump’s pocket. JY 

Well, now that we are actually being governed by mostly non-elected JUDGES, perhaps we should elect our judges and let them appoint our politicians. DM 

The president of the United States claims that anyone writing about his declining health or energy is "seditious" and "treasonous." Here in reality, we live under the United States Constitution, which, through the FIRST AMENDMENT, lets us say anything we want about the president's declining health. BF 

So Trump wants to give farmers $12B in aid because of the harm caused by his TARIFFS, but he’s standing firm on his tariffs. Does this make sense to anybody? I’m not an economist, but even I know this is stupid. Too bad he won't ever admit he's wrong. JH 

Seizing Venezuela's OIL TANKER gets us to what this harassment is really all about. Not drugs but oil and Venezuelans got a lot of it. Cue Meghan Trainor, "Its all about the oil, bout the oil, bout the oil..." Their drug boats could even get to the US. What a joke! DLP 

Trump wants to rid the US of drug dealers so he pardons former HONDURAN PRESIDENT Juan Hernandez, convicted in 2024 for drug trafficking and weapon charges. He claims he was "treated very harshly and unfairly." Do you see the hypocrisy here compared to how the ICE detainees are treated? CM 

AT&T has says it is getting rid of telephone LANDLINES by 2029. AT&T has also agreed to buy CenturyLink's residential business, including landlines. What does this mean for New Mexicans with landlines? Has the state government said or done anything in response? Where is the reporting on this? JA 

We recently went to the RIVER OF LIGHTS and I must say, it's a cold walk that will warm your heart! CB 

Please explain how a 3 loss ALABAMA FOOTBALL team gets in the playoffs after losing the SEC championship in a game where they played like a high school junior varsity squad. JM
