Opinion: Speak Up!

If TARIFFS are to punish other countries, why is President Donald Trump threatening not just to reinstate tariffs the Supreme Court struck down but raising them above current levels? He's willing to punish everyone to get revenge on the justices who defied him. A wounded Trump is dangerous. JMR

Trump said he is "absolutely ashamed" of the SUPREME COURT'S decision on tariffs. The United States should be absolutely ashamed it has a president so immature, so antagonistic toward democratic principles, and so totally unfit for his office. BH

As good parents and educators, we teach youth we can't always get what we want and learn to accept it with dignity. But the PRESIDENT insults all who don't give him what he wants. Most recently, he insults the Supreme Court and mentions their families. Shameful. DD

Trump's falling asleep at his recent BOARD OF PEACE meeting has resulted in the renaming the organization the Bored of Peace. RJ

I always chuckle when I see the term TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. The funny thing is Trump has Obama Derangement Syndrome. He's obsessed. Last week Trump accused Obama of leaking classified information with his offhand remarks about aliens. I bet Trump hated Obama's appearance at the NBA All-Star Game. EJG

POTUS and friends are destroying the rule of law including the CONSTITUTION. They are trying to create the world in the image of a fatally flawed leader turned dictator. It's a critical time in the history of the US. People of goodwill should stand up and be counted. MY

I am ashamed of our NM representatives who did not attend the STATE OF THE UNION address. They should have been there to stand up for the sad and happy stories of ordinary people. They are not representing me, as they should be showing respect for my fellow citizens. RG

We are paying our congressional representatives in Washington to represent the people of New Mexico. They failed their job and us by not showing up for the STATE OF THE UNION address. Time to vote for someone who will have respect for us and the president by being there. RPM

By not watching the State of the Union speech our NM US legislators showed us they WILL NOT WORK across the aisle. This failure to work across the aisle increased after Speaker Pelosi tore up the president’s speech. Disrespect! We must stop paying legislators so they can return to true public service. BR

Kudos to Rep. GABE VASQUEZ for representing New Mexicans at the State of the Union address. The rest of our congressional delegation was absent and quite frankly not doing their jobs. Regardless of the politics, they represent us and need to participate. AR

Why does Congresswoman OCASIO-CORTEZ blame Trump for her ineptness regarding foreign affairs as she demonstrated in Munich, Germany? Trump is not to blame for her failure. She is to blame. KSC

How foolish that New Mexico's legislators are using tax dollars to make up for the income loss for counties that can no longer CONTRACT WITH ICE. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome on full display. It would be the best slapstick comedy if it wasn't so pathetic. Shame on these people. GH

I've said it before and I'll say it again. HEALTH CARE AND PRISONS have to be run by the federal government and cannot be for profit, as the profit motive will always override the care of patients and the incarcerated. The 300 jobs in Otero County will be replaced. EN

In November, we should all vote for a PAID-SALARY LEGISLATURE. I know, that doesn’t feel like the solution. But how else can we get working people into lawmaking? Because right now it’s people who can afford not to work making the decisions for those of us who do. SW

Regarding “Governor touts big wins, airs a few disappointments after end of 30-day session” (Feb. 20 Journal): I just read that our state Legislature has passed the IMMIGRANT SAFETY ACT, officially making NM a sanctuary state. Since I pay thousands in state taxes, does that make me an accomplice in aiding and abetting a criminal? RS

The Journal insert "Measuring Progress: 2024-2025 ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT" of Bernalillo and Sandoval counties' schools is the single, saddest, document I've ever read. After so much time, money and initiatives, how is it possible that the outcomes are so dismal? Our children will be ill-prepared for an increasingly complicated world. AH

Gee, I've been wondering where has our MAYOR been? He was reelected for a third term and we haven't seen or heard from him. Is he trying to fix all the messes he created and can't figure it out? We the people are wondering. EM

Wouldn’t you think with the 100th anniversary of ROUTE 66 the city might just clean it up and maybe have celebrations for the travelers. Nope, and you voted for him three times. KP
