OPINION: Why I'm running for Albuquerque City Council

I’m running again for City Council because I believe deeply in the promise of District 3 — in our people, neighborhoods and the future we can build together.

I was born and raised here. I have lived the challenges and the opportunities our district faces. As your councilor, I’ve made it my mission to make government accessible, responsive and committed to the everyday needs of our community. Over the years, I’ve championed projects here in District 3 — from public safety, to infrastructure, to community unity.

Our district is changing, and for the better, but that change can’t leave anyone behind. I’m asking for your support so together, we can keep pushing forward. Listening, delivering and keeping promises. Too often, people feel their voices don’t matter. That’s not how I work. I believe leadership begins by listening — to parents, seniors, business owners, neighbors and youth. What I’ve heard is consistent: Repair our streets, keep our neighborhoods safe, make infrastructure work and support opportunity. That’s what I aim to deliver.

I won’t promise grand gestures. I’ll do the work — improving roads, curbs, drainage, lighting, parks and sidewalks — so every part of District 3 is cared for. I bring experience, persistence and focus to see projects across the finish line.

Safety in our neighborhoods matters above all. I believe public safety is fundamental — not optional. In District 3, I’ve supported safety initiatives, visibility efforts and community outreach to reduce violence and build trust. I will continue to work with law enforcement, neighborhood groups and social-services partners to prevent crime, respond quickly and heal communities. I’m running to be a public safety voice for our district. Because when our families feel safe, they can thrive.

District 3 is changing. Our values, our demographics, our needs — all shifting. But change alone isn’t progress. We must guide it with intention. We must make sure growth benefits longtime residents, not just newcomers. We must preserve what makes our neighborhoods unique while investing in the infrastructure and services that make them strong.

I believe Albuquerque is standing at a pivotal moment. The potential for a breakout decade is real. We can’t coast on past momentum — we must lead into it. With the right leadership in City Hall, District 3 can be one of Albuquerque’s greatest success stories. I want to help lead that.

I’m not running because I want a title. I’m running because I believe in service. Because I’ve lived the challenges many face — and I’ve worked to tackle them from within. I know what it takes to push through bureaucracy, to negotiate, to stick with projects and to push for equity.

If reelected, I pledge to keep showing up. My door will stay open. My decisions will be rooted in what residents tell me. I’ll stay accountable. No surprise promises. No empty rhetoric. I’m in this to do the work. District 3 deserves a councilor who cares, listens and acts. Our district deserves leadership anchored in community — leadership that sees our shared future, not just the next term. I would be honored to continue serving, to earn your vote, and to partner with you as we shape what District 3 becomes. Let’s keep growing stronger — together.
