In almost every private sector or public sector job employees are expected to sign a “Code of Conduct” which forbids accepting gifts or bribes. Our president accepts a $400 million plane from another country. If it was any of us we’d probably hear the words “you’re fired.” DD

Congratulations to POTUS for winning a free big, beautiful, luxurious airplane, fit for a king, from Qatar. I’m sure no laws were broken in the process. Well, maybe the Constitution, but who cares about that? Retrofit and maintenance will be expensive, but Mexico has promised to pay for it. MY

President Trump and Musk have rolled back food testing, including testing for bacteria in infant formula. He’s made major cuts at the Federal Aviation Administration, leading to fears for airline safety. How long before people push to end Republican domination in Congress? DD

President Donald Trump’s commencement speech at West Point last weekend was disgraceful. He never served and evaded service on the flimsiest of excuses. It’s a farce that these cadets were forced to listen to Trump blather about trophy wives on the most important day of their young lives. EJG

When it comes to the One Big Beautiful Bill, the critics and supporters are clear where they stand. The left loves big government with voters tied perpetually to it while the right wants to see dependency on government reduced in order to save us from existential bankruptcy. Addiction is hard to overcome. GH

Once again the GOP is adding trillions to our national debt. Just looking at the current budget bill caused Moody’s to lower our credit rating. We are in danger of losing our ability to borrow money. And worse, many Americans could lose health care coverage and food benefits. JH

Please tell me how firing government employees who are working for us is going to make America better. Same with getting rid of migrants who can work. America needs workers people. SS

I just installed a new swamp cooler. A better one. But it occurred to me with all these companies running around talking people into refrigerated air that pretty soon this refrigerated air craze is going to put a strain on our grid and the brownouts will begin. AP

So did any of our New Mexico Congressmen/women honor our warriors by participating with their congressional members in the annual cleaning of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.? These are our true heroes who deserve our respect. ML

Regarding “Endangered tax credits are essential for New Mexico’s clean energy future” (May 27 Journal): NM Rep. Meredith Dixon’s recent rah-rah column, supporting a so-called hydrogen economy, blatantly ignores massive scientific concern about the viability of using methane, a more climate-destroying gas than carbon dioxide, to produce hydrogen. New Mexico’s real contribution to energy independence is developing our clean sun, wind and geothermal power. MC

Kudos to local law enforcement for cracking down on cars without license plates. It was disheartening to see so many cars without plates. As a liberal Democrat, I feel that law enforcement will have an easier job cracking down on criminals now that cars can be easily identified. LGS

It is deplorable that so many guns were found on schools’ campuses during the last few days of school. Legislature, you failed the people. Governor should call for a special session immediately. Those found with guns should be held in jail/confinement until they are 21. The parents should be fined/jailed. PP

University of New Mexico regents have approved an increased burden on academic students in the form of higher fees in order to subsidize NIL (name, image and likeness) athletics. They and the UNM administration have lost sight of the fact that academics is the primary purpose of any university. The tail is now wagging the dog. KH

You’ve taken away their seats, you limit the number that can attend, and now you want to raise the UNM student Fees. How about using some of the ridiculous salary given to the athletic director and have no student fees. After all, you always say it’s about the students. RS

It is unconscionable to have huge increases in funding for UNM athletics, from the Legislature and now from student fees. The university is for education not for funding multimillion dollar coach salaries. This is wrong. DR

Recent articles by the Associated Press printed in the Journal are so one sided and biased that they belong in the Opinion section. It’s no wonder that mainstream media has lost credibility. SM

Could the Albuquerque Journal start a column highlighting valuable items made in New Mexico? Instead of focusing on unproductive Albuquerque Public Schools editorials, it would be great to share positive stories and celebrate the amazing things happening in our community. SR
