DEI is about fairness and giving people who have been discriminated against a fair shot, including women, people with disabilities, and veterans. Should we just continue to ignore them? Nobody is being forced to hire a woman or a person in a wheelchair. DEI is not “reverse” discrimination. JH
Unbelievably, for so many reasons, President Trump wants to eagerly accept a potential Trojan Horse plane from Qatar as a “gift.” Perhaps we can rename it Air Force Ego 1. DD
Flash! President Trump is going to make Qatar the 52nd state (after Canada). That way he can say that the plane he’s going to get from them is made in the USA. RJ
Dear President Ramaphosa: I wish to obtain refugee status in South Africa. I, my colleagues, and friends are presently experiencing extreme persecution. We are intelligent, productive citizens who believe in human rights, the Constitution, and science. The unprecedented attack on science, a hallmark of our nation, is impossible to bear. JG
My Local Voices letter published 5/18/25 used the phrase “those genocide victims, the Afrikaners.” I was attempting a sarcastic rebuke of the false narrative put forth by the administration to justify moving them to the front of the line. Instead, I may have perpetuated that narrative. Sorry. RT
You say POTUS is trying to unite us and wants to eliminate taxes on the middle class. I say that’s absurd. You have to look at his actions, not the chronic lies spouted by his propaganda machine. The POTUS family gets billions richer and you get? MY
Sure signs that a president is becoming dangerously autocratic: he’s gaming the judiciary to avoid due process (“gang members” to El Salvador) and arresting those that oppose the leadership (mayor of Newark and Milwaukee judge). RM
Interesting that the Dems didn’t care about “due process” when former President Obama deported millions of illegal immigrants, 75% of whom were not given due process. Where was the outrage then? Should Obama be impeached in arrears? What do you think? JF
Listened to great interview with Cash (sic) Patel and Dan Bongino. The Trump administration is totally determined to make our nation safe again. Unfortunately we cannot get APD or Rio Rancho PD to get on board with that goal. Noise ordinances ignored, traffic laws ignored. Homeless and druggies taking over both towns, sad. AVSP
“Motorcycle Awareness Month?” That’s great, but maybe the DOT could start with some other fundamentals that are not enforced in New Mexico like, “Drive the Posted Speed Limit,” “Passing Does Not Require Tailgating,” or “Slow Traffic Keep Right”? AN
ABQ Ride has known for years now that they do not have the ability to support their advertised schedules yet time and again they negligently refuse to condense their schedules to something they can support and instead continue to strand passengers on a daily basis waiting on skipped buses. BV
Medical malpractice reform is dead in New Mexico, again thanks to our lawmakers who value more money for themselves or friends over the health and wellbeing of their constituents. No wonder we have an exodus of physicians with the now huge malpractice premiums they bear. JT
It’s good to see that the governor is trying to diversify New Mexico’s economy by attracting new foreign investors. Investments by the Sinaloa cartel can’t last forever. Eventually you run out of 2.7 million fentanyl pills. Maybe the Russian mafia can be enticed to set up shop in New Mexico... SV
“A government big enough to give you everything, is also big enough to take it all away” New Mexico politicians would be wise to heed this Jeffersonian voice. Forty percent of New Mexicans on the government dole is too many. We must move toward self reliance and not more handouts. GH
Instead of implementing a “reward” of $10 a day for every day the child attends school, let’s penalize them $10 a day for every unexcused absence. If a child has 10 or more unexcused absences within a school year, parents may face fines up to $100 for each unexcused absence, underscoring importance of parental involvement/accountability. DC
The governor, the Legislature and PNM all told us ETA and the transition to green energy production would lower costs. Yet PNM continues to increase electric rate for its customers. What a surprise... LRS
PNM has two conflicting goals, provide us with acceptable electrical service and make as much money as possible. Blackstone Inc. has just one of those goals. Can you guess which one? TC
It is extremely alarming that Blackstone, the hedge fund that controls Ezee Fiber, is buying PNM. rjb
Why do I have a bad feeling about the sale of TXNM Energy/PNM to Blackstone? Will this commitment result in another Spain Green Energy fiasco? No mention about nuclear power sources to support 24/7 power. Must we call to install Generac backup power systems? Certainly no EVs or AI centers. GT
Mayor Keller’s administration continues to purchase rundown private properties at great expense to citizens. Then some decision is made to spend millions more converting those properties for other purposes. The Unser family garage is the latest $2.2 million “investment.” Why? Why? Why? DM
