USAID does critical work
I am the proud mother of a U.S. Agency for International Development employee. She has spent over 15 years working long hours, often in difficult and dangerous places around the world, because she believes in helping people through USAID. It provides food to the hungry, medicine to the sick and education to children who might otherwise have no future — it's America at its best.
It is painful to hear politicians attack USAID as a "radical agency" or "criminal organization." These are hardworking public servants who have dedicated their lives to making the world safer and more stable, and it benefits the U.S. by creating new markets for our farmers and through partnerships with U.S. universities.
USAID is not the enemy — cutting it hurts America's standing in the world and puts my daughter and thousands of others who serve out of meaningful work. These politicians aren't just attacking this agency — they are demeaning the compassion and global leadership that we Americans hold dear. I hope our leaders can change this decision and make USAID once again a force for good in the world.
