Police Theorize Prostitute Killed for Being a Man

Albuquerque police are investigating the possibility a transvestite prostitute was killed when a customer realized the man's gender.
Last week, police found Ryan Shey Hoskie, 23, in an alley in the 1600 block of Ridgecrest SE. When they found Hoskie, he was partially clothed in women's attire, police said.
"The motive is still unclear, but this is one of the theories we are investigating," said APD Sgt. Carlos Argueta. "Based on his past, it is something that has come up."
According to court records, Hoskie has been arrested three times on prostitution charges.
Each time Hoskie's booking photo was taken, he appeared to be a woman and officers called Hoskie a "known transvestite prostitute," according to court records.
In two of the arrests, Hoskie was arrested by the same undercover officer. In both incidents, the officer saw Hoskie flag down vehicles, then ask for money to perform sexual acts, court records show.
Police said they don't believe Hoskie was killed in the alley. They suspect his body was dumped there. A cause of death has not been determined, but Hoskie had suffered injuries to his upper body, Argueta said.
Investigators are awaiting results from an autopsy.
Other than his arrest record, very little is known about Hoskie. Argueta said.
"Right now we don't have much to go on," he said. "We need the public's help."
