The 45 New Mexican competitors at the National High School Finals in Wyoming come from all parts of the state, but once the saddles are cinched and the flag signaling the start of an event falls, they form a tight-knit community.
High-school rodeo is a subculture, but one not that far removed from the world that urban kids compete and play in. Journal photographer Aaron Wilson spent four days at the rodeo photographing the events.
