2025 NMAA Football State Championship: Scores and schedules
Hope Christian’s RJ Montoya, middle, tries to run past Hot Springs’ Billy Baca (18) during last Friday’s playoff game.
The 2025 NMAA Football State Championship is heating up.
Here's a look at all the scores and matchups throughout the postseason:
CLASS 6A

(5) La Cueva 41, (12) Eldorado 7
(11) Carlsbad 35, (6) Rio Rancho 13
(7) Volcano Vista 14, (10) Cibola 10
Quarterfinals — Nov. 14-15
---> (1) Las Cruces 49, (8) Los Lunas 29
This was far from vintage Las Cruces High Bulldawgs football, but they did the one thing they had to do:
Advance.
The No. 1 seed in Class 6A football was, by their standards, unusually sloppy and frequently out of sorts in a game with costly turnovers, ill-timed penalties and unexpected dropped passes, but Las Cruces, keyed by a crucial sequence midway through the second half, survived a tighter-than-it-looked quarterfinal against No. 8 Los Lunas, ousting the Tigers 49-29 on Friday night at the Field of Dreams.
---> (2) Cleveland 42, (7) Volcano Vista 0
Cleveland running back Samuel Bustillos described the Storm's simple, yet stellar gameplan: “Start with the run, open up the pass, everything clicks.”
Coming off a first-round bye, No. 2 Cleveland (10-1) defeated seventh-seeded Volcano Vista (8-4) 42-0 in a dominant quarterfinal victory.
Cleveland’s offense, usually known for its pass game, established the run early and often at Lightning Bolt Stadium and still managed its ninth 40-plus-point performance of the season.
“We really just went out there with a great mentality,” Cleveland linebacker/running back Troy Logan said. “That we wanted to hold these guys to zero points and play them even better than we did the first time.”
Logan punched in two rushing touchdowns, Bustillos tallied over 100 total yards and junior back Damian Rodriguez took in a 20-plus-yard rushing score in an all-star day for the running back group.
“It's a good group of dudes,” Bustillos said. “We all work, not even just the running backs, the whole offense, the whole team. We're all working. We all trust one another.”
Cleveland’s smashmouth brand of football carried over to the defensive side, holding the Hawks scoreless for the first time in Volcano’s season.
---> (3) Hobbs 30, (11) Carlsbad 19
At Watson Memorial Stadium in Hobbs, the third-seeded Eagles (9-2) grinded out a win over the 11th-seeded Cavemen (6-6), sending Hobbs into the semifinals for the first time in 44 years.
Quarterback Junior Medrano threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third for the Eagles.

In Taos, the fourth-seeded Tigers (7-4) struck for a 44-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds remaining, then kicked the PAT for the decisive point in a tight Class 4A quarterfinal win over the fifth-seeded Chargers (7-5).
Quarterback Evan Salazar threw the game-tying TD pass to Alejandro Ortega.
Taos missed the PAT, but Academy was offsides. The Tigers didn’t miss the second try and that was the difference.
The Tigers at one point trailed the game 17-3 following a pick-6 by the Chargers’ Gage Conway.
---> (3) Chaparral 42, (6) Moriarty 41 (OT)
In Chaparral, the third-seeded Lobos (8-3) spotted the sixth-seeded Pintos (6-5) a lead in overtime, but Moriarty missed its PAT. Chaparral came back to score on an Israel Nieto run, and also converted the PAT to walk off the Pintos in a Class 4A quarterfinal thriller.
Chaparral will face No. 2 St. Pius in the semifinals next week.
---> (2) St. Pius 49, (7) Grants 7
For the second consecutive season, Grants served as quarterfinal fodder for an explosive St. Pius squad.
The second-seeded Sartans (9-1) raced out to a 42-7 halftime lead and rolled to an 48-7 victory over the No. 7 Pirates (7-5) in a Class 4A quarterfinal matchup at Nusenda Community Stadium on Friday night. In 2024, St. Pius topped Grants 46-14 en route to a Class 4A championship game appearance.
“These kids got the job done,” said Sartans head coach Curtis Flakes II. “We’ve had two weeks to prepare and get ready. It's just a great opportunity for us to come out here and do what we do.”
