ABA rallies with two Connie Mack WS wins on Saturday

The Albuquerque Baseball Academy won both its pool play contests Saturday at the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, and now the tournament shifts into its more serious phase.
The 12 entries, including ABA, starting Sunday all move into the bracket portion of the event.
ABA, as the host team in the field, has the prime time slot at 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Ricketts Park — but the team was not going to learn its opponent until late in the evening on Saturday, until after the completion of the final game in its pool.
ABA rebounded from a loss to a tough Midland (Ohio) Redskins on Friday, to win twice on Saturday.
In ABA’s first game Saturday, it defeated PPA Chicago White Sox Scout 3-1.
Eli Edmiston, a recent graduate of Farmington High, and La Cueva’s Luke Feist, who was a late addition to the roster before the team left Albuquerque, combined on a five-hitter for ABA.
Edmiston went the first four innings, Feist the final three (giving up just a single hit) to earn the save.
ABA scored two first-inning runs, one after Wyatt Boognl was hit by a pitch, and the other on a sacrifice fly.
The White Sox cut the deficit in half in the top of the second; ABA added an insurance run in the bottom of the second, on a fielder’s choice ground ball.
Santiago Long from Farmington had two of ABA’s six hits.
In ABA’s second game Saturday, former Cibola standout Jacob Segotta hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning for a 5-4 lead, and ABA went on to defeat Tulsa (Oklahoma) Sandlot 10-4.
Segotta drove in four runs in the victory. He also homered in ABA’s loss on Friday.
ABA trailed Tulsa 4-1 after four innings, but put up a four spot in the fifth, culminating with Segotta’s homer to center.
ABA put the game away with five additional runs in the seventh.
Drew Watkins from La Cueva had two hits and two RBIs, including an RBI double ahead of Segotta’s home run, for ABA. Dominic Gonzales from Grants also had two hits and two RBIs. Talan Barraza, who graduated last year from Sandia, had two hits and scored two runs.
Brandon Segal from Rio Rancho High earned the win in relief. He pitched four scoreless innings.
