Senior quarterback Cam Dyer combined for three passing and rushing scores, and running back Cheeto Lumbrera III added three touchdowns of his own for La Cueva, which is expected to be the No. 1 seed when the 6A playoff bracket is revealed Sunday morning.

The Bears will have a first-round bye next week, then return to the field Nov. 15 or 16 in the quarterfinals.

St. Pius 16, Manzano 7

St. Pius, the new No. 2-ranked team in the Class 4A coaches poll, grinded out a District 2-4A victory Thursday night at Wilson Stadium.

The Sartans (8-2 overall) won all six of their league games, and will be a top-four seed when the 4A postseason bracket is announced Sunday morning.

Sophomore running back Hershul Olloway Jr. scored both St. Pius touchdowns, one on a long run in the second quarter, the other on a screen pass in the third quarter that made it 14-0.

The Sartans were leading 14-7 in the fourth quarter when they blocked a punt through the back of the end zone for a safety, and a crucial nine-point edge.

After starting 5-1, Manzano (5-5, 2-4) lost its fourth straight.

Centennial 42, Las Cruces 24

54 seconds. That’s how long it took for the District 3-6A championship game to go south on Las Cruces, and north for Centennial.

The second-ranked Hawks turned a tenuous halftime lead into a more comfortable bulge with two touchdowns within 54 seconds midway through the third quarter, and undefeated Centennial sailed into the Class 6A postseason with a 42-24 win over No. 5 Las Cruces on Friday night at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.

The 6A playoff brackets come out Sunday morning, and the Hawks (10-0, 6-0 in 3-6A) seem almost certain to be the No. 2 seed behind La Cueva.

“I really don’t care about where we’re seeded. We’re in, we’ll have a first-round bye, it’s just about playing well the next three games,” Centennial coach Aaron Ocampo said.
