Isotopes (again) close 2023 with top attendance in Pacific Coast League
An announced crowd of 10,620 was on hand for the final home game of the season on Sunday at Isotopes Park.
That’s a wrap.
With an announced crowd of 10,620 filling Isotopes Park one last time for the 2023 season, thanks in large part to another festive Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico day and adult jersey giveaway, the Albuquerque Isotopes put a bow on their 20th season of playing baseball with a victory, 2-1, over the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
The Isotopes finished with 521,521 fans on the seasons, an average of 7,048 over 74 home games in Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. That’s the highest overall and average attendance in the Pacific Coast League (El Paso was second in both.) The Isotopes led in average attendance last season, but were edged in overall attendance by Las Vegas, who played two more home games.
Albuquerque finished its 20th season with a 68-82 overall record, but the PCL’s new split-season format provided drama until the final series.
After finishing in dead last in the first half of the season (27-48), the Isotopes’ 41-34 second half record had them in contention for the second half playoff spot until just this final homestand.
Oklahoma City won the first half title and will play second half winner Round Rock later last week for the PCL title.
As for the Isotopes, they set a franchise record with 959 runs scored this season and their 173 stolen bases was second most in club history.
The team opens the 2024 season at Isotopes Park on March 29 vs. El Paso.
