Dates for New Mexico football's conference schedule set
The UNM dance team pump up the crowd during the University of New Mexico Lobos home football game against the University of Wyoming Cowboys at University Stadium in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday Nov. 2, 2024.
As one era comes to an end, a new one begins.
At least for New Mexico.
The Mountain West released its 2025 conference schedule Thursday, lending dates to all eight of UNM's league games in Jason Eck's first season with the program.
Four of the Lobos' (5-7 in 2024) games will be against teams leaving the Mountain West at the start of the 2026-27 academic year. Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State and Boise State all announced plans to depart last fall, joining Washington State and Oregon State in the Pac-12.
Among teams staying in the Mountain West, only Hawaii plays the same amount of departing programs as UNM in the league's final year within its current structure.
A broadcast schedule and kickoff times have not been released. Dates are subject to change depending on network selections.
UNM football: Three thoughts on the Lobos' 2025 schedule
UNM opens its season at Michigan (Aug. 30), the first-ever meeting between the programs. The Lobos will then return to Albuquerque for their home-opener against FCS Idaho State (Sept. 6) and wrap up the first quarter of its schedule with a road game at UCLA (Sept. 13). Michigan and UCLA are members of the Big Ten.
After its first bye, UNM hosts rival New Mexico State (Sept. 27) before opening its Mountain West slate at San Jose State (Oct. 4) and Boise State (Oct. 11) with home games against Nevada (Oct. 18) and Utah State (Oct. 25) in the weeks after. The Lobos’ game against the UtAgs marks the return of former head coach Bronco Mendenhall, who left UNM for Utah State in December.
UNM will then travel to UNLV (Nov. 1), get its second bye of the season and finish the year against Colorado State (Nov. 15), at Air Force (Nov. 22) and vs. San Diego State (Nov. 29).
