PREP NOTES
Hastings to run two indoor races in Boston
Organ Mountain football coach Kenny Sanchez resigns
Next month, standout runner Anna Hastings of Albuquerque Academy will compete in the New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston.
She will compete in the 1-mile and 2-mile races on the trip.
She punched her ticket to the 1-mile race with a qualifying time last month at an indoor meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Hastings last May, qualified for the 2-mile race with a top performance at an outdoor meet in Huntsville, Alabama.
“I’m super excited, I’m really looking forward to it,” said Hastings, a state champion for the Chargers both on the cross country course and on the track. “It’s exciting, always, to have the opportunity to race a bunch of really fast runners.”
Hastings, 17, has signed to compete at Brown University of the Ivy League. Her first meet for Academy comes up the first weekend in March.
MORE SIGNINGS: Some additional prep football signings for New Mexico Highlands include offensive lineman Diego Garcia of Los Alamos, offensive lineman Cristian Medrano of Bloomfield, wide receiver Kaleb Hutchens of Bloomfield, tight end Mason Wallin of Logan, defensive back Tootie McNeil of Artesia and defensive back Isaac Gomez of Las Cruces High.
Eastern New Mexico and new coach Art Briles have not as yet signed a single New Mexico high school player in the 2026 class. Western New Mexico announced its state signees last week.
PREP FOOTBALL: Half of Las Cruces’ four public high schools now have a vacancy for their head football coaching position.
Kenny Sanchez earlier this week resigned at Organ Mountain, after three difficult seasons in which the Knights won a combined six games.
And as Organ Mountain prepares to mount a search, Mayfield is still without a head coach. The Trojans, in fact, are going to do a second round of interviews, probably later this month, after the first round did not yield a replacement for Gary Bradley.
THIS AND THAT: Albuquerque Academy senior forward Addie Spratley last week broke the school’s all-time scoring record when she reached 1,357 points for her career.
