Ice Wolves: NAHL team battles to maintain playoff contention
New Mexico Ice Wolves defenseman Max Matthews recently committed to play Division I hockey at Lindenwood.
This Friday and Saturday, the New Mexico Ice Wolves NAHL team will play the Odessa Jackalopes at the Outpost Ice Arenas. The teams split a two-game series when they met in October.
LAST WEEK: The Ice Wolves were off last weekend following a sweep of the Amarillo Wranglers the prior weekend. The two wins against the Wranglers helped push the Ice Wolves into playoff contention.
RECORDS AND STANDINGS: The Ice Wolves have moved into sixth place in the South Division, with a 16-17-2-3 record. The Jackalopes sit one spot above, in fifth place, with a 17-17-4-0 record. The top six seeds in the South Division make the postseason. Odessa has scored 38 points over the course of the season, and the Ice Wolves are right behind with 37.
PLAYERS TO KNOW: This week, defenseman Max Matthews from Arlington Heights, Illinois, committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Lindenwood. Matthews’ commitment marks the first of the season for the Ice Wolves and the 27th Division I commitment for the team since its inception in 2019. He is also the second defenseman from the organization to commit to Lindenwood.
