NEW MEXICO ICE WOLVES
Ice Wolves to honor local first responders
This weekend's series against El Paso will include events to recognize emergency workers
The New Mexico Ice Wolves NAHL team hosts the El Paso Rhinos at 6:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday for its first responder weekend.
The team will debut its specialty jerseys Friday night featuring logos from Albuquerque Police Department, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, Rio Rancho Police Department, Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office, Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue, New Mexico State Police and Albuquerque Ambulance Services.
The jerseys will be available for auction on DASH with all proceeds going to the Ten-82 Foundation, aiding injured and ill first responders. The auction opens Thursday at noon — bids can be placed at nmicewolves.com.
Friday night’s game will feature a special pre-game ceremony with representatives from local first responder groups, Ryan Tafoya from Ten-82, and Steve Shaw from the weekend’s sponsor, First Tactical.
Saturday night is the team’s annual teddy bear toss for BCSO. Fans are asked to bring new and lightly used stuffed animals to toss on the ice after the Ice Wolves score their first goal. All stuffed animals are donated to BCSO to be handed out to children during difficult calls.
First responders can receive 15% off at Chilly’s Pro Shop and Center Ice Grill at both Friday and Saturday’s games upon presentation of valid ID.
RECORDS AND STANDINGS: The Ice Wolves currently hold onto second place in the South Division with a 16-11-1-1 record after spitting last weekend’s away series against the top-ranked Lone Star Brahmas.
The El Paso Rhinos trail behind the Ice Wolves in third place, with a 14-10-1-3 record. The Ice Wolves faced off against the Rhinos earlier in the season at El Paso, earning a split on the two-game series.
