The Albuquerque Isotopes unveiled new “City Roots” uniforms Monday, featuring alternate jerseys and hats that pay homage to Albuquerque and its status as the Duke City.

The new jerseys are black with red stripes and “DUKE CITY” across the chest while the hats feature a 505 logo referencing Albuquerque’s area code. The zero within the logo holds a Zia sun symbol, used with permission from Zia Pueblo.

In addition to their Green Chile Cheeseburgers and Mariachis de Nuevo México alternates, the Isotopes will don the “City Roots” uniforms five times this season with corresponding promotions. The new collection is the first unveiled by the club since Albuquerque instituted the wildly popular Mariachis “identity” in 2018.

“We are thrilled to announce the City Roots identity, which ties in the history and culture of our community,” Isotopes general manager John Traub said in a release. “A big thank you to our staff and community for their creativity and making the City Roots identity genuine to the 505. It has always been important for us to engage and embrace the Albuquerque communities in the most authentic ways possible, and we believe the fans will take great pride in the City Roots identity.”

The first “City Roots” theme night will take place on Saturday, April 19 with a Duke City-themed flag giveaway and postgame fireworks. Further giveaways and promotions corresponding to the theme include parachute jackets with the 505 logo (July 20), a pregame Vibestrong concert (July 20) and a pregame Al Hurricane Jr. concert (Aug. 23); a promotion for the final “City Roots” night on Sept. 5 has not been announced.

Albuquerque opens its season at Sacramento on March 28 before opening its first home stand against Salt Lake on April 1.
