UTEP at UNLV?

No Boise State, Fresno State, Utah State, Colorado State or San Diego State?

Welcome to the new-look Mountain West.

New Mexico got a look at its 2026 schedule in the remade Mountain West on Thursday, one missing five of the league’s current members and including new additions in Northern Illinois and UTEP.

In league play, UNM will host Air Force, UNLV, Northern Illinois and UTEP and travel to Hawaii, Nevada, San Jose State and Wyoming. The Lobos are also set to host Central Michigan and Mercyhurst while making trips to Oklahoma and rival New Mexico State as part of its non-conference slate.

Dates and broadcast information for each conference game will be announced at a later date.

Because UNM has an away game at Hawaii, the team has the option to add a 13th game to the schedule; the program did not do so under head coach Bronco Mendenhall in 2024. UNM athletic director Fernando Lovo told the Journal on Thursday that the Lobos are not planning on adding an additional game “as of now.”

Boise State, Fresno State, Utah State, Colorado State and San Diego State are all leaving at the end of the 2025-26 academic year to join the Pac-12. Northern Illinois (a football-only member) and UTEP (a full member) will join the Mountain West at the same time, providing the league with nine schools participating in football.

Grand Canyon is also joining the Mountain West in the next academic year as a non-football member.
