Prep notes: Two from New Mexico named to United Soccer Coaches All-America teams
Two players, both from Las Cruces, have been chosen to the United Soccer Coaches Fall High School Boys and Girls All-America Soccer Teams which were released earlier in the week.
Centennial’s Evan Kraenzel and Las Cruces’ Mia Barela were part of the USC’s lists.
Kraenzel had 23 goals and 57 points for the 5A state champion Hawks. Barela tallied 31 goals and 74 points for the Bulldawgs.
Both players will be formally honored on Jan. 11 at the USC All-America ceremony in Chicago.
THIS AND THAT: Moriarty thrower Presley Edwards is going to sign a national letter next week with New Mexico State. She is one of several Pintos who are headed to the next level, also including Victoria Alvarado (track and field/Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado); Isabella Gallegos (softball/Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California). … Matt Abney recently earned his 300th career basketball coaching victory; he has 267 wins at Las Cruces, and now 33 with Centennial. … Former Portales High standout Philip Blidi, who played college football at Texas Tech, Indiana and Auburn, has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. … Corona High’s Harper Dunn, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, has added Wisconsin to her list of Division I offers.
