New Mexico United made the most of a trip south of the border Sunday, rolling up a 6-0 preseason victory over FC Juarez at the latter's training facility.

McKenze Gaines scored two goals for NMU in the match, which was not listed as part of United's preseason schedule by agreement with the Mexican Liga MX club. Mukwelle Akale, Greg Hurst, Tomas Pondeca and Talen Maples also scored for New Mexico.

Goalkeepers Alex Tambakis and Kris Shakes each played one half, combining on the clean sheet.

"We set up this experience for our guys playing in a different country and I thought they handled all the logistics well," United coach Dennis Sanchez said in a postgame interview. "To come down here and have a good performance is definitely something we can build on."

United improved to 2-0-2 in preseason matches and will host Denver University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at its Mesa del Sol training facility.
